What kind of music is that?

In the rush of self-promoting a new music release, it's sometimes easy to overlook the basics beyond the when, where, and how listeners can hear it. "So what's it sound like?", or "What kind of music is it?" you might well wonder. Glad you asked. I'm not one for labels, but I do understand that sometimes you just need to have a general idea of style, if only to know where to add it to your music collection! So how should I describe my latest release? Is it Jazz, classical, world music, trance music, or maybe music for meditation? The answer is yes, to all.

"Hopefully, tomorrow...", which came into being over the past several months of Covid hermitage, is a collage of downtempo, dreamy, impressionistic instrumental music, meant to take the listener on a sonic escape trip. Along this journey you'll hear the sounds of acoustic and electric pianos and basses, classical and acoustic guitars, the unique Melody Flute, electronic horn, otherworldly synth instruments, harps, the Japanese Koto, Indian tabla drums, the exotic tongue drum, even the string section of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. It's a deep tapestry of sound, and like so many of my releases of the past ten years, all of the music you hear was composed and all parts played by yours truly. "Hopefully, tomorrow..." is a companion piece to "Essentially", which I released at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. As with that release, I consider it a blessing that I have the ability to be a virtual one man band, especially during this time of such seclusion. I do hope that tomorrow will bring brighter days for all of us, and that this music might help get us there.
